In a bizarre game that started out with Philomath getting shut out on the home floor in the first quarter and still trailing by two at halftime, the Warriors’ girls basketball team turned their fortunes around in the second half and rolled to a 44-19 win Friday night over Sisters.

Philomath played the game without top scorer Sage Kramer, who was out of town on a recruiting trip, and emotions were running high with seniors receiving recognition prior to the final regular-season home game.

Mia Rust and Kaili Saathoff are the only two seniors remaining on the PHS roster, but coach Ben Silva also suited up and played senior Phaedra Hinds-Cook, who hasn’t seen action this season because of an injury and has been helping the program as a student manager.

Sisters, which lost to Philomath 61-25 earlier this season, held leads of 4-0 after the first and 17-15 at halftime.

Rust, junior Reagan Larson and Saathoff started to put points on the board in the second quarter for the Warriors. But in the second half, Philomath really started to take control with defense. Sisters scored just two points over the final two quarters.

Sophomore Hailie Couture and Larson each hit 3-pointers in the third quarter and Rust had a big fourth by scoring nine of her game-high 17 points. Larson finished with 10 points.
