Philomath High School senior Hudson Raab and juniors CD Nuno and Rocco De La Rosa all earned first-team spots on the all-Special District 3 football team.
Compiled through a vote of the league’s coaches, Nuno made first-team all-league for the second straight year at wide receiver. Raab was named to the first team at tight end. De La Rosa was the lone first-team defensive representative at defensive back.

In all, 11 Warriors at 16 positions were included on the all-conference team.
Second-team selections from Philomath included senior Brady Russell on both sides of the ball at guard and defensive line. Others were De La Rosa at wide receiver, senior Caleb Russell at quarterback, junior Lake Mulberry at inside linebacker and Nuno at defensive back.
Among those receiving honorable mention for the Warriors were sophomore Jamin Peters at both offensive tackle and defensive line, senior Grant Niemann at outside linebacker, junior Josiah Peters at outside linebacker, senior Warwick Bushnell at defensive back, sophomore Kaden Howard at defensive back and Raab at defensive line.
Taking a look at the full all-Special District 3 team, champion Marist Catholic had first-team selections at 12 positions. Runner-up Cascade had eight on the first team and third-place Philomath had three. Filling out the first-team selections were four from fourth-place Stayton, three from last-place Junction City and one from fifth-place Sweet Home.
Marist Catholic swept the individual honors with senior quarterback Nick Hudson as Offensive Player of the year, senior defensive lineman Jackson Christian as Defensive Player of the Year and Zach Loboy as Coach of the Year.
The No. 6-ranked Warriors ended their season with an 8-3 record this past Friday with a 21-14 loss at No. 3 Henley in the 4A quarterfinals. No. 1 Marist (10-1) and No. 2 Cascade (10-1) remain alive in the playoffs with spots in the semifinals.

PHS girls place 10 on all-league soccer team
Ten PHS players earned spots on the all-Oregon West Conference girls soccer team, including four that were named to the first team.
Junior Ana Candanoza and senior Isabel Morales-Marquez were named to first-team field positions, senior Melea Lattin made it as a first-team defender and senior Heidi Bacho was recognized as the first-team goalkeeper.
Making the second team were freshman Kya Bolton, senior Sophia Bauer and senior Natalie Dunn at field positions. Honorable mention recognition went to senior Petra Hernandez (field), senior Aspen Russell (defender) and senior Kateri Pindell (senior).
Philomath had more first-team selections than any other team in the conference. League champion North Marion had three players on the first team along with two from third-place Newport, two from fourth-place Cascade and none from fifth-place Stayton or sixth-place Sweet Home.
Newport senior Sasha Moran was named Player of the Year. Newport’s Travis Leonard earned the Coach of the Year honor.
The Warriors finished the season with a 10-4-2 record and reached the quarterfinals. Philomath appeared to be the toughest opponent for eventual champion Marist Catholic in the playoffs in a 2-1 final. The Spartans went on to beat Scappoose 4-0 in the semifinals and La Grande 5-0 in the 4A title game.

Six Warriors earn league honors in boys soccer
Philomath High senior Silas Pittman earned first-team recognition on the all-Oregon West Conference team. Five teammates also received league honors with three on the second team and two as honorable mention.
The all-conference team is split up into field players, defenders and goalkeepers. Pittman made it as a field player. League champion Stayton had the most first-teamers with five and runner-up North Marion had four. The other remaining first-team spot went to a Newport player.
Making the second team from Philomath were freshman Sammy Hernandez as a field player, sophomore Jacob Hernandez as a defender and junior Jake McGaughy as goaltender. Honorable mention recognition went to junior Lukas Hernandez at a field position and junior Caleb Babcock at defender.
Player of the Year honors went to Stayton senior Addison Samuell. Coach of the Year went to Stayton’s Chris Shields.
Philomath ended the season with a 7-6-2 overall record and exited the 4A playoffs in the first round with a loss on penalty kicks to No. 4 Henley, which went on to win the state title. The Warriors entered the playoffs as the No. 13 seed.
No. 1 Stayton lost to Henley in the semifinals, 2-1. No. 2 North Marion then lost to Henley in the title game on penalty kicks, 3-2 (2-1 on PKs).
