The Philomath High School boys golf team finished sixth Monday in its season debut at the Cascade Classic at Creekside Golf Club in Salem.
The Warriors came in with a team score of 462. Cascade took first at 343. Newport was second with 362, Sweet Home third at 368, North Marion fourth at 390 and Stayton fifth at 397.
Senior Roman Robins led Philomath with a round of 94, finishing 14th overall. Sophomore Avery Petrovich was next for the Warriors at 118, followed by freshman Conrad Yates at 124 and junior Lane Bettencourt at 126.
Despite the team’s final standing, Robins showed strong play on the back nine, carding a 44 to close out his round.
Philomath’s roster features significant youth with eight freshmen among its 13 members alongside two sophomores, two juniors and one senior.
The Warriors’ next competition is scheduled for April 6 at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis. Also competing will be Cascade, Newport, North Marion, Stayton and Sweet Home. First tee time is 11:30 a.m.
