A 70-year-old Waldport man died Monday morning in a head-on crash that occurred on Highway 20 in a stretch between Newport and Toledo, Oregon State Police reported.
Oregon State Police responded to a report of the crash at 9:59 a.m. April 17 in an area near Highway 20’s milepost 3. A preliminary investigation indicated a white Toyota RAV4, operated by David Eugene Beal Weaverling, was eastbound on Highway 20 when it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into a westbound gray Toyota Tacoma, operated by Summer Rose Lovell, 29, of Wilsonville.
Weaverling was declared deceased at the scene, OSP said. Lovell was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The roadway was partially closed for five hours during the on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
OSP was assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Toledo Police Department, PACWEST Ambulance, Newport Fire, Toledo Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
