The Philomath Museum will host feminist historian Therese Oneill for a free public lecture at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Titled “Ungovernable: The Victorian Parent’s Guide to Raising Flawless Children,” the presentation will explore the often backwards, pseudoscientific and downright bizarre parenting practices of the Victorian era.

Oneill, who has previously spoken in the area, will guide attendees through the unusual child-rearing fashions of the period in what organizers describe as an entertaining and educational experience.

Philomath-based Summer Beam Books will have copies of Oneill’s book available for purchase at the event.

The Philomath Museum is located at 1101 Main St.
