Philomath Fire and Rescue extinguished a fully engulfed vehicle fire before it could spread into a wildland blaze on Friday afternoon at a rural residence off Rexford Lane southwest of Philomath.

Crews were dispatched at 1:48 p.m. and arrived within nine minutes, according to the department. Rexford Lane is located on the west side of Highway 34 about 4-1/2 miles south of the Highway 20 intersection.

Six personnel responded in an engine, heavy brush truck, water tender and command vehicle, along with the Oregon Department of Forestry.

When crews arrived, they found the vehicle fully engulfed with the potential for the fire to spread into nearby wildland. The department said a rapid response prevented that spread with the fire fully extinguished within three minutes of arrival.

The Corvallis Fire Department covered Philomath Fire and Rescue’s district during the response.
