Philomath’s Music in the Park series continues Sunday with Unfamiliar Friends, a six-piece band known for its lively energy and heartfelt, folksy-rock sound.
The concert runs from 6-8 p.m. at Philomath City Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy a free evening of live music with friends and family.
The band grew out of Albany and Corvallis’s local music scene with several members first connecting at area open mics. What began as a trio playing informal gigs and busking around downtown Albany expanded over time, adding members until the current lineup came together in the summer of 2025.
The group includes Chris Byers, Luis Puga, Jacki Dougherty, Eric Slyter, Mike Sabbatino and Elli.
The Benton County Historical Society will be on hand to provide free family-friendly activities, and Mud Oven Pizza will be on-site selling wood-fired pizza. Alcohol is not permitted at the event.
Admission is free though donations are welcome to the Philomath Performing Arts Benefit Fund, which directly supports Philomath students.
