The Refuge in Philomath is raising money to help finance a trip to Kenya to establish a sustainable food source and bring jobs to the local populations of Ruiru and Malindi, organizers announced.
“We are working to raise $3,200 per person so that we can go help set up and work alongside those who are building an aquaponics food system that will incorporate growing fish and plants at the same time,” sources with The Refuge said about the effort, which involves a partnership with the 93CDegrees organization.
The effort includes a can and bottle drive on Saturday, a Papa’s Pizza fundraiser on Monday and a dinner and silent auction and dessert auction event on June 24.
The can and bottle drive will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 13 at The Refuge, located at 1947 College St. The items can be dropped off or volunteers will come and pick them up.
To participate in the Papa’s Pizza fundraiser, download a flyer and bring it to the business on May 15 and as a result, The Refuge will receive 50% of the value of the food purchased. Fundraiser Bucks can also be purchased to use toward future pizza orders and on those, The Refuge will earn 25% of their value. Beverages and delivery orders are excluded.
Organizers are soliciting silent auction items and dessert items for the event on June 24. For those who want to donate items or desserts, or want more information, call 541-231-5313 or 541-740-1468.
The Refuge put together an informational sheet with more information, including other ways to contribute.
