After water, the second-most consumed beverage in the United States is coffee. Several surveys have been done over the years and in general, around 70% of adults drink coffee with 62% having at least one cup. The average American coffee consumer has at least three cups per day.

Having the first cup of coffee in the morning is an important moment for many of us — that includes me. We prefer the pour-over method of brewing in our household and try to enjoy at least one cup together while connecting in conversation before the kids wake up.

But there is also the morning time crunch as you try to get to work on time or get kids dropped off at school in time before they’re marked tardy.

Following are five ways to get your morning coffee fix while on the run.

1. Drive-through coffee

Probably the fastest way to get coffee on the run would be to stop at The Human Bean, which is located at 1914 Main St. This drive-through coffee spot opens every day at 5 a.m. Even when the lines look a little long, baristas will often come to you at your car to get your order started.

Philomath appears to be getting a new coffee shop in the near future with a local entrepreneur planning a drive-through on Main Street between North 17th and 18th.

2. Traditional coffee shop

Timber Towne Coffee, located at 1427 Main St., opens at 7 a.m. You can order and wait on site or call ahead for your coffee to be ready for pickup. It’s a solid walk-up option with some interesting coffee combinations.

3. Local restaurants

There appear to be three options for coffee that would fall under this category and are open in the early mornings — The Dizzy Hen, McDonald’s and Subway.

McDonald’s in Philomath, located at 125 S. 14th St., opens daily at 5 a.m. and has the convenience of a drive-through. The Dizzy Hen at 1247 Main St., is a popular sit-down restaurant with coffee as an option and an opening time of 8 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday. And Subway at 115 S. 19th St., has more than sandwiches with hours that begin daily at 8 a.m.

4. Convenience stores

Convenience stores are typically a spot to grab coffee. We have Jona’s Market at 100 S. Eighth St. with the aptly named “My Daily Crave” section. Philomath Market at 1405 Main St., will offer coffee again soon following a remodel. There are also coffee options at most of the local gas stations.

5. Your own kitchen

Finally, you could just get up 15 to 20 minutes earlier (if you’re usually pressed for time), make your own coffee and pour it into a to-go cup. This is what we do in our house most of the time in the early morning hours. But I will add, we still seem to hit the local coffee spots on a regular basis.
