Tax-Aide program returns to Philomath Feb. 11

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program will return to Philomath beginning Feb. 11 and will offer its volunteer preparation assistance this tax season out of City Hall.

Paul Dickey, who coordinates the local effort and has been involved for 18 years now, said volunteers will be available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Feb. 11 through April 10. AARP volunteers help people figure their taxes through in-person assistance and e-filing. An AARP membership is not required.

The Philomath site is an appointment-only process. For those interested, call 541-602-5829.

Current pandemic-related protocols will be in place for appointments, which includes social distancing and the wearing of masks.

The city agreed to help Tax-Aide by making City Hall available. The tax-assistance program in past years operated out of Philomath Community Library.

Although the last day of tax preparation help will be April 10, Dickey said it’s possible that the Internal Revenue Service may extend the submission deadline for several weeks past the current deadline date of April 15. If that’s the case, he said Tax-Aide would also extend its services.
