The Philomath High School girls softball team hit two doubles and a triple in a losing cause Wednesday at home against Sweet Home. The Huskies posted the Oregon West Conference win, 19-4.
Down 10-0, the Warriors put together some offense in the bottom of the third inning. Junior Lilia Leman led off the inning with a single and junior Jenae Traglia followed with a double. Leman ended up getting thrown out at home but Traglia later scored on a passed ball to get the Warriors on the scoreboard.
Junior Laighla Hockema then reached on an error. That brought up junior Hannah Bennett, who knocked a triple to right field to drive in Hockema. Bennett later scored on a grounder by sophomore Emma May.
Philomath’s other run came in the fourth inning on a one-run single by Traglia. Junior Zoee Howard, who led off the inning with a double, scored on the play.
Traglia went 2 for 3 at the plate. Freshman Haley King and Hockema saw time at pitcher.
Junior Jocelyn Fairchild went 2 for 4 for Sweet Home (5-10 overall, 3-2 Oregon West). Sophomore Katriana Harris went most of the way at pitcher for the Huskies to pick up the win.
Philomath (0-14, 0-5) will hit the field again Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. game against Cascade.
