The city’s Music in the Park summer concert series returns this year with its debut event set for Thursday evening.

The free performance will begin at 6 p.m. in the Randy Kugler Community Hall and gazebo area of Philomath City Park. Food and refreshments will be available from the Philomath Lions Club. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

The concert series, organized by the Philomath Park Advisory Board, offers free performances each month not only on the third Thursday, but also beginning this year on the last Sunday. In all, there will be four concerts on Thursdays and four on Sundays.

The weeknight concerts run from 6-8 p.m. and the Sunday concerts from 2-4 p.m. Any donations collected by those who would like to contribute will go to the Philomath Performing Arts Benefit Fund.

This will be the fifth summer of the concert series since its launch in 2016. The series was canceled last year.

After the Double Play performance, other upcoming Thursday concerts will feature Driftwood Dale (June 17), Animism Ensemble (July 15) and Scruggs & the Steelbenders (Aug. 19). The Sunday lineup includes Michelle Dedman and Luke Painter (May 30), Tin Can Alley (June 27), 8 Balls Band (July 25) and DTW (Aug. 29).
