Stayton pulled away in the late innings for a 12-4 victory over Philomath in high school softball on Monday.

The Warriors (1-2) trailed just 6-4 going into the bottom of the fourth inning but the Eagles (2-2), playing on their home field, scored six unanswered runs to take the win.

Philomath scored three runs in the top of the first for a positive start to the ballgame. Kaili Saathoff and Presley Reichhuber both reached on walks and Emily King singled to load the bases. Saathoff later scored on an error and Reichhuber reached home on a sacrifice fly by Kamden Combs. Ahnika Tryon singled in King.

Philomath’s other run came in the fourth when Kyla Berger walked, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a Mia Bennett groundout.

Melanie Baldwin went 2 for 3 and King finished 2 for 4 to lead Philomath at the plate.

Combs and Tryon both saw time in the circle. Combs allowed four hits and three walks with three strikeouts in two innings of work. Tryon allowed seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in four innings.

Jessica Rule went the distance for Stayton, a performance that included seven strikeouts.

Philomath plays at home Wednesday against Cascade and then heads to Woodburn on Thursday.
