Stayton scored seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings to pull away from visiting Philomath for a 10-0 win in an Oregon West Conference softball game on Monday.

The game was close through the first four innings with the Eagles breaking a scoreless tie in the third inning with a couple of runs and then going up 3-0 with another run in the fourth.

Errors were an issue for the Warriors with seven in the field. Seven of Stayton’s 10 runs were unearned.

Sophomore Hailey Smith’s 5-1/3 innings — the run rule went into effect with one out in the sixth — allowed five hits and six walks with one strikeout.

Philomath (6-8 overall, 1-6 Oregon West) was limited to two hits against Stayton senior Makenzie Schacher. Sophomore Rylee Martin led off the fourth with a single and junior Haley King hit a one-out single in the fifth.

Junior Erin Stutrud and senior Molly Cox each had two hits for the Eagles (10-8, 6-1). Schacher had 11 strikeouts and issued one walk.

The Warriors are scheduled to host Cascade at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
