The Philomath High School boys tennis team got in some work Thursday at Class 5A South Albany as part of its preparation for next week’s 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 2 tournament.
South Albany won the match, 5-3, behind a strong showing in the doubles matches. Philomath’s three wins came in singles. Andrew Leonard won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Jackson Rice rallied for the victory at No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Owen Thomas also went to three sets to defeat his opponent, 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 (8).
The Warriors are scheduled to play at 8:30 a.m. Monday (weather permitting) at Crescent Valley High in Corvallis for the district tournament’s early rounds. The tournament moves to the Salem Tennis & Swim Club Thursday and Friday.
