A Philomath-based shoe manufacturer and a bestselling author-biomechanist are teaming up on Aug. 6 to offer “Grow Wild Day at Softstar with Katy Bowman,” a four-hour workshop described as a “movement-rich, family-friendly event” that will offer useful ideas on continuing to move once fall arrives.

The workshop runs on that Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Softstar Shoes, which is located at 914 Main St. Tickets (one per family) are $30, which include a signed copy of Bowman’s book “Grow Wild: The Whole-Child, Whole-Family, Nature-Rich Guide to Moving More,” and discounts on the host company’s footwear. Organizers said ticket sales will be capped and can be purchased in advance online.
A Softstar workshop tour to see how minimal leather footwear is handcrafted, outdoor lectures, a question-and-answer session with Bowman, a collaborative mosaic activity and a scavenger hunt for the kids are among the activities.
“Katy is a dynamic, original voice on the importance of movement, strength and balance in our everyday routines,” Softstar’s Tricia Salcido said in a press release. “She gives practical advice about how to build in healthy habits and rituals that are achievable. We are so honored to have Katy visit Softstar and help us turn ideas into action.”
Said Bowman, “We know people are looking for simple steps to more connection, movement and nature, and thought this event would be a great way to address both our communities’ needs.”
Bowman’s book explores changing movement habits for the better and includes more than 100 ways families can move more.
