Campers and outdoor enthusiasts can now enjoy the Siuslaw National Forest with officials announcing the rescission of public-use restrictions that had limited campfire and recreational activities.

The restrictions were lifted Monday following recent rainfall and cooler temperatures that have reduced fire danger in the area, forest officials said.

The changes mean campfires will once again be permitted outside of developed campgrounds throughout the forest. Additionally, restrictions on chainsaw use, off-highway vehicles and smoking will be lifted.

“Even with the reduced fire risk, it is still important to never leave a campfire unattended and completely extinguish it so it is cold to the touch,” forest officials emphasized in a news release.

The cancellation applies to all lands within the Siuslaw National Forest, including wilderness and special recreation areas. The forest is currently at “low” fire danger level.

Forest officials encourage visitors to check the Oregon Department of Forestry’s website for information on the Oregon Coast and surrounding areas. Additional fire information is available on the Siuslaw National Forest website.
