The Philomath High School girls soccer team saw a two-goal lead slip away in the final 10 minutes of a key Oregon West Conference game on Monday night at Sisters. For the Warriors, it’s the second straight tie against the top competition in the league.

“Sometimes it’s good to face that adversity to learn from it,” Warriors coach Mat Phelps said.

Heading into Tuesday’s game, Woodburn and Sisters are tied for first place with 3-0-1 records with Philomath in third at 2-0-2. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play their fifth conference game on Tuesday with a home game against Stayton.

The Warriors (3-1-2 overall) scored the game’s first goal early in the second half. On the play, sophomore Bailey Bell scored off a rebound from a shot by sophomore teammate Kamilla Grimmer.

The score remained 1-0 until the 68th minute when junior Mia Cook found the net on a shot from 25 yards out. But the Outlaws came up with answers in the remaining time with goals in the 70th and 72nd minutes — both on fast counterattacks that caught the Warriors out of position.

Sisters (4-1-1 overall) hits the pitch again Thursday with a trip to Cascade. The Warriors come home to face Stayton on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. — take note of the earlier-than-usual start time.
