In a match that came down to a double tiebreaker to determine the winner, Silverton edged Philomath in a girls tennis dual Friday afternoon.
The competition ended with each team winning four matches. To break the tie and declare a winner, the number of sets won were added up and the two schools were still tied, 9-9. So, it went to a second tiebreaker and Silverton got the win with a 77-68 advantage in games won.
The Warriors won at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles. Bailey Bell (6-2, 6-1) and Adele Beckstead (6-1, 6-1) easily won in the top two slots. At No. 3, Elise Reese battled for a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win over Makayla Chase. At No. 4, Silverton’s Katie Kuenzi dropped the first set to Megan Reese but came back to win the next two, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Silverton won three of the four doubles matches in straight sets. Philomath’s Maggie King and Lucy Thomas teamed up for a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 doubles.
Philomath (1-1) is scheduled to play at home at 4 p.m. Monday against South Albany.
