The 28th annual Shrewsbury Renaissance Faire returns to Kings Valley this weekend with hundreds of costumed players, artisans, merchants and musicians taking visitors back to the Elizabethan Era.
The event goes from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets (available online or at the gate) are $22 for adults ($30 for weekend pass) and $10 for a child or senior ($15 for weekend pass). Children ages 5 and under and active military are admitted free.
The event dates back to 1996 and in its first years was held at the Philomath rodeo grounds. It’s been staged at the Kings Valley site since 2002. Established by Leslie and Ken Engle, the faire was modeled in part after the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Los Angeles, which the organizers had attended in its heyday.
Among the activities is a live jousting exhibition in the “tournament fyld,” which will take place at noon and 4 p.m. both days.
To find the faire from Philomath, head west on Highway 20 and then north on Kings Valley Highway to Grant Road, which is located on the Benton-Polk county line. Look for the signs just north of the “S bend.”
