The Philomath High School Shining Stars dance team will host a kids dance camp Aug. 17-19, organizers announced.

The Dancing With the Stars Kids Camp, which will run each of those three days from 8-10 a.m. at PHS, is for children ages 4-14. The activity will close with a performance for family and friends at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 in the high school’s main gym.

The cost is $50 per dancer and those interested can register online (follow this link) or on the first day of camp.

“We are really excited to share our dance passion with the kids in the community,” said Shining Stars coach Stefanie Larson, adding that in a three-day, two-hour camp, participants “will learn stretching, dance technique, dance routines, play games and build friendships and community.”

Larson said all proceeds will go to support the dance program for the 2023-24 season, which included  costumes, choreography expenses, team meals at competitions and several other items.

The Shining Stars are a competitive dance team that competes at multiple competitions around the state and compete each year at the Oregon School Activities Association State Championships in March. Last year, Larson said the team competed in jazz, contemporary, hip-hop and novelty categories.

The program has produced numerous all-state members, academic scholarship winners, Drill Down Award winners and Thunderbird Dance Camp awards.
