Philomath High School’s Shining Stars finished seventh in 4A/3A/2A/1A Traditional category Saturday at the Oregon School Activities Association Dance and Drill State Championships.

Competing at the Salem Pavilion, Philomath had a score of 66.25 in the competition to finish behind Scappoose (78.14), Astoria (77.69), Marshfield (76.94), Pendleton (75.83), Molalla (73.22) and Newport (66.64) and ahead of Grant Union (63.53) and Amity (60.5).

Team members include seniors Tori Cropp and Ginnah Hopper, junior Ash Pike, sophomores Marri Best, Kaihautu Cropp and Ella Hammonds, and freshman Mirielle Cupp. Jordyn McMullen serves as head coach.

In other competitions involving 4A schools, Astoria won 5A/4A/3A/2A/1A Hip Hop, Silverton took first in 5A/4A/3A/2A/1A Jazz and West Albany was the champion in 5A/4A/3A/2A/1A Pom.

In the 4A/3A/2A/1A drill-down competition, Scappoose’s Abby Lemen won ahead of four Pendleton dancers placing second through fifth.
