Benton County residents will have an opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste during a free collection event from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Republic Services in Corvallis.

The event allows community members to discard materials that cannot be placed in regular trash bins, including paint, motor oil, and other automotive fluids; batteries and fluorescent light tubes; electronics; and pesticides and herbicides.

Only household quantities up to 5 gallons will be accepted. There is no charge for residential customers.

Items collected will be handled safely, and where possible, recycled for future use. However, some materials will not be accepted, including ammunition, explosives, and fireworks, and medical waste, including sharps.

Businesses and residents needing to dispose of industrial waste or larger-than-household quantities must call 916-693-4496 to schedule a drop-off appointment for Friday.

Republic Services is located at 110 NE Walnut Blvd. For more information, contact Republic Services.
