A workshop on historic chimney repointing is planned for Thursday at Fort Hoskins Historic Park, Benton County announced.

The Fort Hoskins’ Commander’s House Chimney Restoration Workshop begins at 3 p.m. April 24. Participants will learn the skills needed to repair and restore brickwork. Limited spots are available and the organizers ask those interested to register by calling 541-766-6521.

Repointing is a restorative process that replaces mortar that has deteriorated between bricks or stones.

Carol Chin, preservation specialist, will lead the workshop through hands-on training and information on proper tools and materials to extend a chimney’s lifespan. No experience is necessary with homeowners and do-it-yourself enthusiasts encouraged to participate.

Fort Hoskins is located at 22953 Hoskins Road about 12 miles northwest of Philomath (take Highway 20 west out of town, turn north onto Kings Valley Road and then west on Hoskins Road).
