What is your favorite game? Is it a board game, one played with cards, dice, checkers, chess pieces or little figurines? How many people can play? What are the rules?
In our modern world we can play any number of electronic games with people around the world or with a friend or family member across states or neighborhoods. While these computer-based games are fun and make our days speed by, we are missing out on the original idea of games — forming a bridge to communicate with each other.
Games allow us to sit across from one or more people and begin conversation, to laugh, to challenge our intellect, to share stories, to learn, to pass the time away, and to strengthen or build friendships both old and new.
We, the group of seniors now known as the Philomath Sensational Senior Society, are currently gathering once a month to do just that — play games.
We also meet on the second Tuesday of each month to focus on a topic of interest, and again on another day just to laugh, learn and play games. Bring a game along to teach, or one oldie that most know how to play, or just come along and watch and join in on the conversation and friendship.
Our next game day will be held at a special location. We will meet at Fitness Over 50 at 3 p.m. on Oct. 30. We will learn a bit about how Fitness Over 50 works and gather around the games area and have some fun.
We hope to see you there!
