FRIDAY, MARCH 22

• 1:33 p.m. — Police responded to a report of reckless driving in Philomath City Park. Three teenagers were in the park attempting to learn how to drive a stick shift.

Other calls: Police responses included a warning issued to a bicyclist at 9:24 p.m. (North 13th Street and College Street) and citizen contact at 10:35 p.m. (South 14th Street). PPD reported seven traffic stops.

SATURDAY, MARCH 23

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included a city ordinance violation at 1:16 a.m. (Applegate Street), dog at large at 11:31 a.m. (College Street and Dampier Drive), dog at large at 1:47 p.m. (Main Street), welfare check at 3:02 p.m. (College Street), trespassing at 3:42 p.m. (South 14th Street) and a non-911 issue at 11:48 p.m. (Pioneer Street). PPD reported six traffic stops.

SUNDAY, MARCH 24

• 8:37 p.m. — Police arrested a 50-year-old Philomath man on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol .08 through .14) following a traffic stop in the 200 block of South 13th Street.

• 8:40 p.m. — Police arrested a 22-year-old Corvallis woman in the 100 block of South 20th Street on a misdemeanor charge of second-degree disorderly conduct. No other details were made available.

Other calls: Police responses included a mental health issue at midnight (Pioneer Street), city ordinance violation at 1:05 a.m. (Pioneer Street), argument between a couple at 10:34 a.m. (North 11th Street), noncriminal issue at 12:22 p.m. (North 16th Lane), trespassing at 4:43 p.m. (South 20th Street), found dog at 6:20 p.m. (North 11th Street) and a noncriminal issue at 7:55 p.m. (North 20th Street). In addition, police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call at 7:17 p.m. (Highway 20 and Davis Road). PPD reported five traffic stops.

MONDAY, MARCH 25

• 1:19 p.m. — Police responded to a report of threats allegedly made against a man by a restaurant employee.

• 2:12 p.m. — Police responded to a crash in the 1200 block of Main Street. No injuries were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included misuse of the 911 system at 4:21 p.m. (Pioneer Street) and a welfare check at 9:23 p.m. (address not reported). PPD reported three traffic stops.

TUESDAY, MARCH 26

• 12:07 a.m. — Police responded to a report of an alleged assault at an address on North 11th Street involving a couple that had broken up. Police had responded to a situation involving the same couple two days earlier. It was recommended that the case be discontinued unless more evidence of an assault came forward.

• 5:57 p.m. — Police arrested a 24-year-old Alsea man in the 1400 block of College Street on a misdemeanor charge of second-degree disorderly conduct.

Other calls: Police responses included a disturbance at 5:31 p.m. (Main Street) and a suspicious circumstance at 9:23 p.m. (South 15th Street and Applegate Street). PPD reported two traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included person assist at 8:29 p.m. (Main Street) and a dog barking at 11:43 p.m. (South 15th Street). PPD reported two traffic stops.

THURSDAY, MARCH 28

• 4:17 a.m. — Police arrested Robert Kevin Gardner, 58, of Brownsville, and Lacey Renae Matthews, 41, of Brownsville, in the 400 block of Landmark Drive, both on felony charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle. Gardner was also charged with four misdemeanor counts related to the alleged crime, including criminal mischief, attempted theft and possession of a burglary tool or theft device. Matthews also was also charged with a misdemeanor count of giving false information to a peace officer.

• 1:02 p.m. — Police conducted a death investigation in the 800 block of Main Street. No other details were made available.

Other calls: Police assisted the Corvallis Police Department on a call at 2:23 a.m. (Southwest Philomath Boulevard, Corvallis). PPD reported no traffic stops.

THURSDAY, MARCH 14

• 5:57 p.m. — Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle stuck in the snow on Marys Peak Road with a driver that could possibly be intoxicated. The deputy did not find the driver, a 26-year-old Albany woman, to be impaired and a tow truck got the vehicle out of the snow.

SATURDAY, MARCH 16

• 12:44 a.m. — Deputies arrested a 34-year-old Philomath man on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving following a traffic stop at Fern Road and Powder House Road.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20

•7:41 p.m. — Deputies arrested a 56-year-old Blodgett man on warrants for failure to appear in court following a traffic stop on Highway 20 about 2 miles east of Blodgett.

THURSDAY, MARCH 21

• 9 a.m. — Deputies issued a warning to a 43-year-old Philomath man for an ongoing issue of his dogs escaping their property and running onto Kings Valley Highway.

THURSDAY, MARCH 28

• 1:40 p.m. — Deputies took a report of computer crime and fraud in Blodgett involving an individual who sent $2,500 to another person, who after receiving the money stopped answering messages and deleted a Facebook account.

FRIDAY, MARCH 29

• 4:50 p.m. — Deputies responded to a report of a possible vehicle break-in at Eco Express Laundry parking lot on North 14th Street. The situation turned out to involve a car owner attempting to fix a broken antenna on her vehicle.

FATAL CRASHES

MONDAY, MARCH 25

• 10:06 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 about 12 miles south of Gold Beach that took the life of Warren David Laville, 75, of Gold Beach. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Chrysler 3000 driven by Laville was stopped on the highway for an Oregon Department of Transportation flagger when it was struck from behind by a Toyota Matrix driven by a 55-year-old Coos Bay woman. Laville was transported to a hospital where he was declared deceased. A passenger in the Chrysler, a 74-year-old Gold Beach woman, and the driver of the Toyota, were transported to the hospital for evaluation.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27

• 8:24 p.m. — Troopers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Highway 97 in Bend that took the life of James Ray Carter, 75, of Bend. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a semi-truck driven by a 34-year-old Tracy, California, man struck Carter, who was walking in the Bend Parkway’s fast lane. Carter was declared deceased at the scene. The truck driver was reportedly not injured.

FRIDAY, MARCH 29

• 1:57 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 about 27 miles south of Baker City that took the life of Breanna M. Cass, 39, of Quincy, Washington. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Cass was traveling at a slow speed near the right shoulder of the roadway when it was rear-ended by a semi-truck driven by a 37-year-old Nampa, Idaho, man. Cass was pronounced deceased at the scene. The truck driver was reportedly not injured.

SATURDAY, MARCH 30

• 2:42 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 211 about 2 miles west of Sandy that took the life of a 4-year-old girl. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Ford Focus driven by a 32-year-old Hillsboro man was headed south on South Meridian Road when it failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a Jeep Liberty driven by an 18-year-old Canby man. The Jeep struck the driver’s side of the Ford as it crossed Highway 211. The Ford’s driver was transported to a hospital in critical condition. A 36-year-old Hillsboro man and an 8-year-old boy, passengers in the Ford, were seriously injured and transported to the hospital. The 4-year-old girl, also a passenger in the Ford, was declared deceased at the scene. The Jeep’s driver and a passenger, a 19-year-old Canby woman, were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
