FRIDAY, OCT. 6

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included a city ordinance violation at 2:37 p.m. (South 18th Street) and dog at large at 10:42 p.m. (North Seventh Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 8:40 a.m. (South 17th Street). PPD reported five traffic stops.

SATURDAY, OCT. 7

• 1:25 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run in the 1700 block of Main Street. No other details were immediately available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included a dog at large at 9:47 p.m. (North Seventh Street). In addition, police provided assistance at an event detail at 10:10 a.m. (Main Street) and assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call at 6:12 p.m. (Chapel Drive). PPD reported 14 traffic stops.

SUNDAY, OCT. 8

• 1:33 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run at South 19th Street and Applegate Street. According to a report, an adult male driver crashed into aerial communication lines, causing power outages, and left the scene.

• 4:41 p.m. — Police arrested an adult male on a warrant at North 14th Street and Main Street. He was cited and released. A report shows police were also involved in a warrant service situation at the same location and same time frame. No other details were immediately available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

• 10:13 p.m. — Police were involved in a driving under the influence of intoxicants call at Pioneer Street and North 10th Street. No other details were immediately available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included road kill at 1 a.m. (Highway 34 in the vicinity of Joseph Lane), bike traffic warning at 2:06 a.m. (Applegate Street and South 26th Street), person assist at 8:56 a.m. (police station) and driving while suspended at 5:10 p.m. (North 14th Street and Main Street). PPD reported eight traffic stops.

MONDAY, OCT. 9

• 11:21 a.m. — Police transported an adult male from the 900 block of Applegate Street to Benton County Jail on contempt of court charges.

Other calls: Police responses included mail theft at 10:41 a.m. (College Street), suicidal subject at 11:43 a.m., welfare check at 2:34 p.m. (Quail Glenn Drive), suspicious person at 3:20 p.m. (Main Street), found dog at 3:47 p.m. (Main Street) and city ordinance violation at 10:44 p.m. (South 11th Street). PPD reported three traffic stops.

TUESDAY, OCT. 10

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included extra patrol at 2:50 p.m. (South 16th Street) and dog barking at 9:34 p.m. (Grouse Place). PPD reported one traffic stop.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 11

Other calls: Police responses included mail theft at 3:17 p.m. (Grouse Place), suspicious person at 6:51 p.m. (South 13th Street), animal complaint at 8:57 p.m. (South 16th Street and Chapel Drive) and threats at 9:38 p.m. (North 14th Street). PPD reported one traffic stop.

THURSDAY, OCT. 12

• 1:10 p.m. — Police responded to a report of criminal mischief in the 2300 block of Main Street. No other details were immediately available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included an emergency message at 5:21 a.m. (North 19th street), emergency message at 11:34 a.m. (Dove Place), dog at large at 1:30 p.m. (Willowbrook Drive), animal complaint at 1:40 p.m. (College Street), traffic hazard at 4:44 p.m. (Main Street), vicious dog at 6:05 p.m. (Newton Street) and a welfare check at 7:58 p.m. (Marlon Street). In addition, police assisted the Corvallis Police Department on a call at 1:40 a.m. (Southwest Philomath Boulevard, Corvallis). PPD reported two traffic stops.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 29

• 3:12 p.m. — Police arrested a 36-year-old Philomath man on a probation violation warrant out of Lebanon in the 100 block of Northwest Fourth Street, Corvallis.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 30

• 10:18 p.m. — Police arrested a 48-year-old Eugene woman on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (blood alcohol content .08 through .14) following a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Main Street. The driver was also cited for speeding.

• 8:39 a.m. — Police responded to a situation at Philomath Middle School involving a minor in possession of a marijuana item.

• 10:57 a.m. — Police arrested a 30-year-old Corvallis man on a warrant for contempt of court at Bellfountain Road and Southwest 53rd Street, Corvallis.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 30

• 10:55 a.m. — Deputies responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash at 10:55 a.m. on Kings Valley Highway about 2 miles north of Beazell Memorial Forest. According to a report, a 37-year-old Renton, Washington, woman driving a 2022 Toyota Camry was headed north when the vehicle entered the east ditch, then overcorrected back onto the highway and rolled into the west ditch and crashed through a fence. No injuries were reported.

TUESDAY, OCT. 3

• 3:57 p.m. — A deputy stopped at the Westwood Community Church parking lot on Greasy Creek Road to check on a Chevy Suburban that had wires hanging from the steering column, the vehicle identification number covered by a razor blade and new-looking tools in the rear of the vehicle. The deputy left because of a higher-priority call and the Suburban was gone upon a return to the site.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 4

• 3:57 p.m. — Deputies took a report of mail theft from a resident on Botkin Road. The resident was advised on steps to take to prevent fraud attempts and to contact his financial institutions. 

SUNDAY, OCT. 8

• 5:45 p.m. — Deputies responded to a complaint in the Llewellyn Road vicinity involving a dog running onto a neighbor’s property and killing two chickens. The dog owner was issued a warning.

MONDAY, OCT. 9

• 12:15 a.m. — Deputies arrested a 30-year-old Albany man on a misdemeanor warrant out of the Albany Police Department during a traffic stop on Highway 20 near Lilly Road. The man was cited and released.

• 9:44 a.m. — Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious circumstance at a location on Ervin Road involving the discovery of a cord to an outdoor breaker box that had been cut.

• 4:12 p.m. — Deputies arrested a 52-year-old Philomath man on a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree assault following an altercation that occurred at a Chapel Drive residence.

FATAL CRASHES

MONDAY, OCT. 2

• 5:20 a.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash about 1-1/2 miles east of Rhododendron in Clackamas County that took the life of Clayton Grant Kenyon, 67, of Washougal, Washington. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Kia Soul driven by a 51-year-old Oregon City man was headed west when it crossed the center line and struck an eastbound Freightliner commercial vehicle operated by Kenyon. The collision caused the rig to leave the roadway and hit several trees. Kenyon was declared deceased at the scene. The Kia Soul driver suffered minor injuries.

THURSDAY, OCT. 5

• 5:20 a.m. — Troopers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on Highway 22 about 3-1/2 miles west of Salem in Polk County that took the life of Romero Cruz, 41, of Dallas. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Honda Civic driven by a 19-year-old Gervais man was headed east when it struck Cruz, a pedestrian who was walking in the lane of travel. Cruz was declared deceased at the scene. The Honda driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital.

SUNDAY, OCT. 8

• 12:23 a.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 22 about 1-1/2 miles west of Salem in Polk County that took the life of David Lee Nelson, 55, of Salem. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Ford Mustang traveling east at a high rate of speed lost control and struck an embankment. Both occupants were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle. The passenger in the vehicle, a 23-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital.

• 12:14 p.m. — Troopers responded to a car-motorcycle crash on Highway 47 about 3 miles north of Gaston that took the life of Chris William Garfield, 44, of Forest Grove. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Toyota C-HR driven by a 70-year-old Beaverton man was stopped on Springhill Road facing westbound when it turned south onto Highway 47 into the path of a BMW motorcycle operated by Garfield, who was declared deceased at the scene. A juvenile female passenger was transported to a hospital. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

TUESDAY, OCT. 10

• 10:31 a.m. — Troopers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and motorcycle on Highway 75 near Winston that took the life of Dustin Kirk Carroll, 37, of Roseburg. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 52-year-old Winston woman pulled onto Highway 42 from Landers Avenue into the path of a Harley Davidson motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the side of the jeep and ejected the rider. Carroll was declared deceased at the scene. The Jeep’s driver was not injured.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 11

• 6:05 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 138E about 4 miles east of Glide that took the life of Douglas Floyd, 70, of Middleton, Idaho. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Ford F-350 driven by Floyd was headed west when it lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree. Floyd was declared deceased after transport to a local hospital. A 62-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries.

THURSDAY, OCT. 12

• 1:56 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 361 near Culver that took the life of Melonie Dawn Aldred, 51, of Culver. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Toyota Camry driven by a 54-year-old Metolius woman was headed south when it lost control on a corner at a high rate of speed. The Toyota crossed the centerline and struck head on a northbound Ford Focus driven by Aldred, who was declared deceased at the scene. The Toyota’s driver was extricated and life-flighted with serious injuries to a hospital.

• 7:27 p.m. — Troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near Redmond that took the lives of a family of four individuals — two parents and two teenagers. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Jesse Carl Ross, 43, of Corvallis, Montana, was headed north when it crossed the centerline, sideswiped a southbound Kenworth commercial vehicle and then struck a Toyota Rav4. The Toyota caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames. Killed in the crash were the four occupants of the Toyota — the driver, Gary J. Rutledge, 57, and passengers, Michelle Jean Windsor Rutledge, 53; Ryan Rutledge, 17; and Kate Rutledge, 15 — all of Troutdale. The Silverado’s driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The operator of the Kenworth, a 50-year-old Livingston, California, man was not injured. OSP is working with the district attorney’s office as the investigation continues.
