SATURDAY, AUG. 12

• 2:26 a.m. — Police arrested a 24-year-old Cottage Grove man on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol. 08 through .14). The man was issued a citation in lieu of custody, although he was taken to Benton County Jail to sober up. The driver was also cited for an unsignaled lane change.

MONDAY, AUG. 14

• 4:14 p.m. — Police arrested a 42-year-old Corvallis man on a warrant in the 1000 block of Applegate Street.

FRIDAY, AUG. 18

• 8:58 p.m. — Police responded to a reckless driving situation in the 200 block of South 23rd Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included a motorist assist at 12:53 a.m. (Main Street and North 15th Street), dog complaint at 2:55 p.m. (Pioneer Street), found dog at 7:02 p.m. (Chapel Drive) and a motorist assist at 7:18 p.m. (Highway 20). In addition, police assisted other agencies on calls at 10:20 a.m. (Highway 34) and at 5:59 p.m. (Philomath Boulevard, Corvallis). PPD reported one traffic stop.

SATURDAY, AUG. 19

• 3:14 a.m. — Police responded to a driving under the influence of intoxicants situation at Southwest Reservoir Avenue and Southwest West Hills Road, Corvallis. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number. 

• 12:04 p.m. — Police responded to a phone harassment complaint. Both individuals were advised to stop all contact between each other.

• 4:28 p.m. — Police arrested a 53-year-old Philomath man and a 57-year-old Corvallis man on warrants for contempt of court when stopped at Evergreen Road and Fern Road. 

Other calls: Police responses included a dog at large at 8:32 p.m. (North 11th Street) and lost property at 8:52 p.m. (Main Street). PPD reported 15 traffic stops.

SUNDAY, AUG. 20

• 4:03 a.m. — Police were involved in an elude situation at Northwest Walnut Boulevard and Northwest Elmwood Drive in Corvallis. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included a domestic disturbance at 1:42 a.m. (Deer Creek Way), a juvenile complaint at 2:39 a.m. (Nash Avenue, Corvallis), bicycle traffic warning at 2:55 a.m. (Main Street), road kill at 2:12 p.m. (South 14th Street), a juvenile complaint at 6:44 p.m. (South 23rd Street) and a welfare check at 8:20 p.m. (Applegate Street). Also, police assisted Corvallis Police on a call at 9:29 p.m. (Northwest Duniway Drive, Corvallis). PPD reported 15 traffic stops.

MONDAY, AUG. 21

• 1:30 p.m. — Police responded to a traffic hazard situation involving a gas can that was found in the intersection of Main Street and South Ninth Street. The gas can was taken to the Philomath Police Department.

• 5:20 p.m. — Police responded to a crash at North 19th Street and Main Street. No injuries were reported. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included a welfare check at 12:08 p.m. (Main Street), mental health situation at 1:24 p.m., an abandoned vehicle at 4:17 p.m. (North 12th Street) and another welfare check at 8:49 p.m. (address not listed). In addition, police were involved in an event detail at 9:20 a.m. (South 19th Street) and assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call at 8:32 p.m. (Southwest 53rd Street, Corvallis). PPD reported one traffic stop.

TUESDAY, AUG. 22

• 3 p.m. — Police responded to a disorderly conduct situation at City Hall involving a woman who had become angry and aggressive toward a court clerk. A report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included an abandoned vehicle at 8:13 a.m. (South 30th Street), person assist at 11:26 a.m. (Applegate Street), welfare check at 4:08 p.m. (Pioneer Street), suicidal subject at 5:40 p.m., and a report of lost property at 7:06 p.m. (Main Street). In addition, police were involved in an event detail at 9:14 a.m. (South 19th Street) and assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call on West Hills Road and Southwest Reservoir Avenue. PPD reported two traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 23

• 9:42 a.m. —Police responded to a report of theft in the 3200 block of Southwood Drive. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included a noise disturbance at 3:03 a.m. (Maple Street). PPD reported one traffic stop.

THURSDAY, AUG. 24

• 1:13 p.m. — Police took a report of fraud in the 2000 block of Applegate Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

• 10:58 p.m. — Police took a report of a hit-and-run situation at College Street and North Seventh Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responses included a dog at large at 12:55 a.m. (North Eighth Street), mental health situation at 5:01 p.m., traffic complaint at 6:48 p.m. (Applegate Street and South 21st Street) and citizen contact at 11:47 p.m. (Main Street). In addition, police performed extra patrol duties at 10:52 p.m. (North 18th Street). PPD reported six traffic stops.

FRIDAY, AUG. 4

• 8:26 p.m. — Deputies took a report of a crash on Applegate Street near the site of a house fire on South 15th Street involving a fire truck and a police car. According to the report, an Alsea Rural Fire Department vehicle struck at a low speed an unoccupied Philomath Police vehicle. No injuries were reported. 

TUESDAY, AUG. 8

• 3:54 p.m. — Deputies took a report of forgery involving the fraudulent cashing of a check that had been issued by a local business to a vendor. The business owner wanted to avoid an investigation and only wanted the money refunded.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 9

• 9:08 p.m. — Deputies responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Marys River Estates Road. According to a report, a work truck’s brakes failed and crashed into a hay barn. Two people in the vehicle were able to crawl out on their own and no injuries were reported.

MONDAY, AUG. 14

• 11:24 a.m. — Deputies responded to a report of the burglary of a storage shed on Mount Union Avenue. A metal 5-gallon can with a value of $20 was stolen.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 16

• 7:07 p.m. — Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hoskins Road near Alexander Road with a Subaru Impreza off of the south side of the roadway. According to a report, the driver, a 34-year-old Portland woman, said she drove into soft gravel coming around a corner and spun off the road. No injuries were reported.

FRIDAY, AUG. 18

• 10:15 a.m. — Deputies arrested a 34-year-old Eugene woman on a second-degree disorderly conduct charge following an incident that occurred on Highway 34. According to the report, the woman who was cited stopped her vehicle in the middle of the road, approached another vehicle and while an argument ensued, allegedly struck another woman in the chin. The woman was cited and released.  

SATURDAY, AUG. 19

• 12:16 a.m. — Deputies arrested Timothy Lee Smith, 38, of Prineville, on a felony charge of possession of fentanyl (25 or more units), providing false information to police and on a warrant out of Crook County for parole violation following a traffic stop on Highway 20 near Blodgett. According to a report, Smith provided a fake name to police and ran into the woods on the north side of the highway near milepost 37. Deputies found the suspect approximately one-half mile into the woods hiding 15 to 20 feet up a fir tree.

• Time NA — Deputies took a report from a Blodgett resident who reported finding the home’s cat deceased in the yard. The owner suspects that the cat died in a suspicious manner.

MONDAY, AUG. 21

• 6 p.m. — Deputies responded to a report in the area of Highway 34 and Botkin Road of a large gold container of a deceased individual’s ashes that had been found. The ashes were returned to next of kin.

• 8:40 p.m. — Deputies responded to a report of a resident who had received a strange threatening phone call.

TUESDAY, AUG. 22

• 3:15 p.m. — Deputies responded to a report on Norton Creek Road in Blodgett of two Great Pyrenees dogs running at large and allegedly chasing domestic ducks at one residence and goats and sheep at another residence.

• 5:40 p.m. — Deputies responded to a report of a dog at large running on a Norton Creek Road resident’s property in Blodgett. A large Anatolian shepherd-like dog was transported to Heartland Humane Society.

SUNDAY, AUG. 25

• 3:14 p.m. — Deputies issued a criminal citation to a juvenile on a misdemeanor charge of harassment with physical content/simple assault for an alleged incident that occurred the previous night.

SATURDAY, AUG. 26

• 9:50 a.m. — Deputies responded to a report of an abandoned moped on a Fern Road property. The moped was removed and taken into BCSO as found property.

Oregon State Police

OREGON FATAL CRASHES

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 23

• 8:51 a.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 in Linn County. Joel William Applebaum, 30, of Sweet Home, and Joy Lavonne Backus, 70, of Sweet Home, were killed in the crash. OSP reported that a Hyundai Elantra with Applebaum driving was traveling east, left its lane of travel and stuck a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Backus that was headed in the opposite direction. Both individuals were declared deceased at the scene.

• 12:20 p.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 in Malheur County. Christina Cheryl Shane-Contarino, 75, of Yreka, California, was killed in the crash. OSP reported that a Mercedes SUV driven by Shane-Contarino was negotiating a curve when it crossed over the center line and hit a Peterbilt commercial truck driven by a 34-year-old Ontario man. The trucker had attempted to avoid the oncoming vehicle, the report said, and ended up in a nearby cornfield following the collision. The Mercedes came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway.

THURSDAY, AUG. 24

• 1:05 p.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 in Lincoln County. Megan Becca Wigington, 32, of Salem, was killed in the crash. OSP reported that a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Wigington was headed south when it left the roadway for unknown reasons, rolled multiple times and came to rest on its roof.

SATURDAY, AUG. 26

• 3:17 p.m. — Oregon State Police responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle on Highway 38 in Douglas County. Marilyn Rae Kropf, 67, of Shedd, was killed in the crash. OSP reported that a Honda CRV driven by a 79-year-old Reedsport woman made a left turn from Dean Creek Road toward Highway 38 in front of a Honda motorcycle driven by a 70-year-old Shedd man. The motorcyclist attempted to stop and fell to its side. The passenger came off of the motorcycle and impacted the rear of the Honda CRV. The vehicle’s driver and two passengers were not injured.
