DAILY REPORTS

FRIDAY, SEPT. 22

• 8:03 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a sex-related offense that occurred outside the jurisdiction. A report was taken and forwarded to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

• 8:09 a.m. — Police responded to a report of harassment. The victim was advised to contact police again if it continues.

• 11:20 a.m. — Police responded to a report of third-degree criminal mischief with crime damage in the 3100 block of Main Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

Other calls: Police responded to reports of a lost dog at 1:18 p.m. (Pioneer Street) and 5:23 p.m. for a mother-daughter conflict. In addition, police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call at 4:52 p.m. on Bellfountain Road. PPD reported seven traffic stops.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 23

• 2:53 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a crash at Main Street and Landmark Drive. No injuries were reported.

Calls: Police responses included citizen contact at 2:47 a.m. (North Ninth Street and Main Street), animal complaint at 3:32 a.m. (Main Street) and a suspicious vehicle at 11:15 a.m. (Pioneer Street and Sunshine Avenue). In addition, police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call at 5:38 p.m. on Southwest Plymouth Drive and the Corvallis Police on a call at 11:11 p.m. at Northwest Ninth Street and Northwest Linden Avenue, Corvallis. PPD reported 14 traffic stops.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 24

• 4:26 p.m. — Police responded to a report of second-degree criminal mischief with crime damage in the 400 block of South 30th Street. A resident reported that at around 6 p.m. Sept. 22, a gunshot was heard outside and discovered a window on the home was damaged. The damage was reported to an insurance company, which requested a police report.

Other calls: Police responses included a civil dispute at 7:18 p.m. (South 14th Street), noise disturbance at 7:19 p.m. (South 16th Street) and a civil complaint at 8:11 p.m. (Newton Street). PPD reported five traffic stops.

MONDAY, SEPT. 25

Calls: Police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call involving a crash at 5:34 p.m. on Highway 34. PPD reported no traffic stops.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 26

• 11:09 a.m. — Police responded to a car fire on Highway 20 near Mustang Lane and assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. See separate story.

• 2:41 p.m. — Police responded to a report of fraud in the 1200 block of North 19th Street. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number.

• 2:46 p.m. — Police responded to a report of trespass in the 3000 block of Main Street. A woman was cited and released for trespassing.

• 3:36 p.m. — Police responded to a report of an elderly woman injured when a vehicle backed up and hit her. See separate story.

• 9:21 p.m. — Police responded to a report of trespass in the 300 block of North 18th Street. A report was not filed.

Other calls: Police responses included a locked-out vehicle (Chapel Drive and Bellfountain Road), non-911 issue at 2:21 p.m. (Main Street) and a welfare check at 4:34 p.m. (Main Street). In addition, police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on a call at 6:54 a.m. at Peterson Road and Ritchie Lane, and provided extra patrol at 1:09 p.m. on North 13th Street. PPD reported three traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 27

• 5:56 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a dog found on North Ninth Street. A black and tan German shepherd with no chip or collar was transported to Heartland Humane Shelter and Care, Corvallis.

• 9:50 p.m. — Police responded to a report of criminal mischief in the 500 block of Starlight Way. No other details were made available other than a report was taken and assigned a case number. 

Other calls: Police responded to a traffic hazard at 6:28 a.m. (Applegate Street and South Eighth Street). In addition, police performed extra patrol at 2:49 a.m. on North 18th Street. PPD reported one traffic stop.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 28

• 2:23 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a minor student making threats at a local school. A threat assessment followed and the student was suspended. 

Other calls: Police responses included citizen contact at 11:29 a.m. (North 12th Street and College Street) and a welfare check at 6:50 p.m. (Main Street). PPD reported three traffic stops.

• 8:47 p.m. — Police took a baggie of marijuana found in the middle of South 13th Street and submitted it for destruction.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 21

• 12:11 a.m. — Deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash near the intersection of West Hills Road and North 19th Street. Firefighters extinguished a car and grass fire and the occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. Deputies arrested a 22-year-old Newberg woman on charges of reckless endangering, driving under the influence of intoxicants (blood alcohol content under .08), failure to perform the duties of a driver with property damage and reckless driving, and a 26-year-old Corvallis man on a charge of second-degree criminal trespass. • 6:21 a.m. — Deputies responded to a report of dogs at large in the Ervin Road vicinity and one stray was transported to Heartland Humane Society. A second dog could not be captured. A 44-year-old Corvallis woman was cited for permitting a dog to run at large.

• 7:20 p.m. — Deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash of a 2002 Honda Odyssey into a guardrail on Highway 20 near Woods Creek Road. Deputies arrested a 41-year-old Corvallis woman on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (blood alcohol content of .28). Philomath Police was at the scene and led the DUII investigation for training.

MONDAY, SEPT. 25

• 11:19 a.m. — Deputies responded to a report of theft from a vehicle at Beazell Memorial Forest. The victim reported that while he was attending an event at the park, someone broke into his pickup and stole a wallet.

• 5:30 p.m. — Deputies responded to a crash involving two vehicles on Highway 34 less than a mile south of the intersection with Highway 20. No injuries were reported. A 29-year-old Alsea man was cited for following too closely.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 28

• 10:05 a.m. — Deputies responded to a report from Mount Union Cemetery involving an unknown person who toppled over a granite headstone. The incident was believed to have occurred on or before Sept. 25. There were no suspects.

FATAL CRASHES

THURSDAY, SEPT. 28

• 8 p.m. — Troopers responded to a crash involving two trucks on Interstate 84 about 15 miles east of Pendleton. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that an eastbound commercial motor vehicle and trailer driven by Ruslan Basarab, 49, of Renton, Washington, was traveling in the slow lane when it struck the rear-end of Peterbilt commercial motor vehicle and trailer and caught fire. Basarab was transported to an area hospital and declared deceased. The operator of the Peterbilt was not injured.
