Pittman scores twice in 2nd half to help PHS get past Sisters, 2-0

Philomath High School senior Alivia Pittman scored unassisted goals 17 minutes apart in the second half to help the Warriors to a 2-0 victory at Sisters on Tuesday night.

PHS coach Mat Phelps said it was a physical game.

“We adjusted to it for the second half and controlled the play,” Phelps said.

The Warriors (5-1) and Outlaws (3-3) were deadlocked in a scoreless tie at halftime and that’s the way it remained 15 minutes into the second half. Finally, Pittman broke the scoring silence with a goal in the 55th minute to put the Warriors on top. The goal occurred after Pittman came up with a steal and hit from the outside on a left-foot shot.

In the 72nd minute, Pittman dealt a death blow to the home team with her second goal. On that one, she dribbled through the Sisters defense all the way into the keeper and found an open corner.

The Warriors beat Sisters for the second time this season, taking down the Outlaws, 4-0, on March 6.

Philomath will take a five-game winning streak into Saturday’s game against Woodburn. The contest is scheduled for a noon start at Crescent Valley High School, the Warriors’ designated home field for this season.
