Philomath seniors Blaise Pindell and Joseph Choi came out of a Special District 2 home duals meet with nothing but victories on Tuesday evening. Pindell pinned all three of his opponents at 182 pounds and Choi recorded two falls over his opponents with the third win by forfeit at 285 pounds.
From a team perspective, Philomath defeated Newport, 54-24, and lost to both Sweet Home, 64-18, and Siuslaw, 36-33.
In the victory over Newport, the Warriors lost only one match on the mat, giving up the other 18 points on foreits. Junior Ben Hernandez, wrestling at 120, had the fastest pin of the dual by sticking his opponent in just 17 seconds. Pindell and Choi won on pins in 2:16 and 2:00, respectively.
The strong Sweet Home squad won eight of the 10 matches on the mat. Pindell pinned Charlie Crawford in 2:52 and Choi pinned Dakota Melkvik in 43 seconds. The Warriors got their other six points on a forfeit.
In the three-point loss to Siuslaw, five matches materialized with the Warriors picking up 30 points on forfeits. The lone on-the-mat victory for Philomath came with Pindell’s 5-0 decision over Mason Buss.
Philomath will make another home appearance at 5 p.m. Thursday with duals against Corvallis and Junction City. The team’s seniors will be recognized.
