The Philomath High School wrestling team won two of three duals in an appearance Thursday at Sweet Home with senior Connar Kohn, senior Issiah Blackburn and junior Blaise Pindell winning all of their bouts.

The Warriors won seven of nine on-mat matches against Cascade in a 49-30 team win. Against Marshfield, the Warriors won 51-18 with a 4-2 record in individual on-the-mat appearances. Wrestling power Sweet Home beat Philomath, 57-24, with the Huskies winning six of eight on-the-mat bouts.

Kohn, a 220-pounder, was one of just three PHS wrestlers to see action in all three duals and he came out of them unscathed with first-period pins.

Issiah Blackburn at 195 saw his first action of the week with two victories. Against Marshfield, Blackburn had one of his more competitive bouts of the season by going the full three periods for an 8-3 decision over Miguel Velazquez.

Pindell also went 2-0 with one bout lasting only seconds and the other going into extra time. Pindell, who wrestles at 170, went to a tiebreaker period to defeat Cascade’s Lance Van Hoose, 3-2. Against Sweet Home, Pindell pinned his opponent in just 25 seconds.

Heavyweight junior Joseph Choi saw one bout on the day and he won it with a pin in 47 seconds against a Marshfield opponent.

At 132 pounds, sophomore Caleb Blackburn won two of three matches with both of his victories on pins. Other wins were turned in by junior Blake Niemann at 126, sophomore David Griffith at 152 and junior Jacob Williams at 160.

The Sweet Home appearance marked the third straight day that Philomath wrestlers had seen action on the mat.

The Warriors will now get a breather before hosting Banks, Estacada and Tillamook in the PHS gym on June 10. The action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
