The Philomath High School volleyball team continued its hot start to Oregon West Conference play Wednesday night with a 25-11, 25-19, 25-3 victory at North Marion.

The Warriors remain unbeaten in league play at 4-0 and improve to 4-7 overall. The win was the team’s first set sweep of an opponent so far this season.
“Everyone saw the court tonight and contributed to the win,” Warriors coach Whitney Rasmussen said. “We had a chance to work on speeding up our offense more and run some plays we’ve worked on in practice.”
The performance represented Philomath’s fifth straight sweep over the Huskies since North Marion was realigned into the Oregon West prior to the 2022 season.
“It’s always nice to have a road win under our belt with the last couple of tough home competitions,” Rasmussen said, referring to recent victories in five sets over Stayton and four sets over Cascade in the PHS gym.
Senior Ashleigh Brown and junior Shaylee May had standout performances in the victory. Brown finished with 18 assists, four kills and four ace serves. May was an imposing presence at the net with 10 kills and three blocks.
North Marion, which is located at Aurora, dropped to 1-7 overall, 0-4 in the Oregon West.
The Warriors will next play on Saturday in a round-robin tournament Saturday at Sam Barlow High School. Philomath’s matches are scheduled for 9:15 a.m. vs. Santiam Christian, 11:45 a.m. vs. The Dalles, 2:15 p.m. vs. Sandy and 4:45 p.m. vs. Estacada. The Mt. Hood Invite includes 12 schools in all — three 6A, three 5A, five 4A and one 3A.
