The Philomath High School volleyball team rolled to a three-set sweep over Stayton on Monday night in an Oregon West Conference matchup. The set scores were 25-21, 25-20 and 25-21.

The Warriors (11-5 overall, 3-2 Oregon West) will try to carry their momentum into Thursday’s scheduled showdown against Cascade. The Cougars entered this week unbeaten in league play with a 4-0 record and will play Newport on Tuesday prior to visiting the PHS gym.

Philomath coach Autumn Hilberg said sophomore Madison Provance was a standout in the win over the Eagles (6-7, 2-3) through a steadying performance on the serve-receive unit with a 2.7 ratio and only one error. Senior Abigail Brown was hitting big with 18 kills on 24 swings.

“This was our best all-around game of the season with everyone clicking,” Hilberg said.

Other statistical leaders included junior Madison Juhl with four blocks, junior Ahnika Tryon with 22 digs and sophomore Ashleigh Brown with 34 assists. At the service line, three players each had two aces — Tryon and the Brown sisters.

The match had originally been scheduled for Tuesday but was moved up a day. The Warriors played their first match in new uniforms.
