The Philomath High School girls tennis team swept all four singles matches and added wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles in a 6-2 victory Tuesday on the home courts over Junction City.

The Warriors improved to 5-1 in Special District 2 and 10-2 overall.

Philomath’s athletes were pretty much unchallenged in all six wins. Seniors Bailey Bell and Megan Reese each won their matches by 6-0, 6-0 margins in the No. 1 and No. 4 positions, respectively. Junior Adele Beckstead at No. 2 also dominated her opponent in a 6-1, 6-0 match. Senior Elise Reese was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 3.

Seniors Daniella Carlisle and Nadia Durski were unchallenged in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Senior Lorelei Schell and freshman Clara Neville worked for a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

The most competitive match occurred at No. 3 doubles where sophomore Lucy King and freshman Maggie Real pushed their opponents to three sets. Junction City’s Makayla Croce and Hillary Allred escaped town with a 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 win.

Philomath’s next match is scheduled for May 7 at Cascade. The team will have one more home match on May 8 vs. McKay.
