The Philomath High School swim teams competed in one of its larger meets of the season Saturday with an appearance in Salem at the Blanchet Invitational. The Warrior boys and girls both had third-place finishes at the meet, which featured 11 schools at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Salem.

Philomath sophomore Lucas Brandt added two more wins to his career total by touching first in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. Brandt came in with a time of 2:06.17 in the 200 IM, a victory of nearly 8 seconds over the runner-up. In the 500 free, Brandt swam a 5:08.74 to beat the second-place swimmer by about 29 seconds.

Elsewhere among the individual results, PHS junior Cameron McLennan placed second in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.00.

Two relays had second-place finishes for the Warrior boys. The 200 medley of junior Mason Stevens, Brandt, McLennan and senior Alex Dye had a time of 1:53.37. The 200 freestyle relay of Brandt, Stevens, McLennan and Dye finished in 1:45.05.

For the girls, senior Kyah Weeber led a 1-2-3 finish for Philomath in the 100 IM. Weeber’s winning time was 1:12.33 and she was followed by sophomore Emma Mecham (1:23.85) and senior Hanna McDaniel (1:26.20). Senior Brooke McDaniel placed fifth (1:32.73).

Weeber also had a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:20.57.

Two PHS relays had fourth-place finishes. The 200 medley of junior Kathleen Donovan, senior Kateri Pindell, Weeber and Mecham finished in 2:14.72. The 200 freestyle relay of Donovan, Pindell, Mecham and Weeber turned in a time of 1:59.66.

Philomath added a competition to its schedule for 4 p.m. Monday with a tri-meet hosted by North Marion at the Woodburn Aquatic Center. Kennedy is expected to join the Huskies and Warriors.
