Music in the Park will launch its 2023 summer concert series at 6 p.m. Thursday at Philomath City Park with a performance by the Philomath High School jazz band.
Before the pandemic, the high school musicians had traditionally been the first group to perform each summer. Although the concerts are free, donations are encouraged to benefit the Philomath Performing Arts Benefit Fund, a nonprofit foundation established to fill the needs of all band and music programs in the local school district.
Performances, offered from May through August on the third Thursday and last Sunday, are staged in the Randy Kugler Community Hall and gazebo area. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.
Food and refreshments will be available for purchase from the Philomath Lions Club. Philomath Community Library will also be on site with free family activities.
The Philomath Park Advisory Board hosts the concert series.
Following the school band performance on May 18, the rest of the series features Analogue Maps (May 28), The Root Vegetables (June 15), Phoenix (June 25), Revel’n (July 20), DRTR (July 30), The Easy Targets (Aug. 17) and Tin Can Alley (Aug. 27).
