The Philomath High School girls tennis team made a long trip over to the Oregon Coast pay off on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep over North Bend and Marshfield.
The Warriors took a 6-2 win at North Bend and then traveled a couple of miles down the road to the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Oregon in Coos Bay where they topped Marshfield, 7-1.
In the opener against North Bend, Philomath’s singles players went a perfect 4-0. Lucy Thomas won a competitive three-set match against Amelia Peck, dropping the first set before rallying to take the final two, 6-3 and 10-3. Lucie Oster was dominant in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ella Warner, and Lucy King and Maggie King each won in straight sets over their opponents.
Philomath split the doubles matches. Logan Cook and Lacey Bacho teamed up for a 6-3, 6-4 win over Darrah Windham and Chloe Patton, and Isabelle Norman and Cecilia Milesi handled Amanda Chen and America Flores Vargas, 6-2, 7-5. North Bend took the other two doubles points — Grace Clark and Olivia Smith edged Clara Neville and Bella Nunez in a three-setter, 10-8 in the final set, and Kamryn Van Elsberg and Caroline Friedrich defeated Lizzie Workman and Bethany Cannon, 6-4, 6-1.
In the second match at Coos Bay, Philomath posted a 7-1 result against Marshfield. Thomas, Workman, Lucy King and Maggie King all won in singles. In doubles, Oster and Neville won, as did Cannon and Nunez, and Norman and Milesi. The Warriors’ lone loss came when Cook and Bacho fell in doubles.
Opponent names and scores from the Marshfield match were not available.
Philomath’s girls are scheduled to play two home matches next week — Tuesday vs. Riverdale and Thursday vs. Junction City. Both matches have 4 p.m. start times.
