The Philomath High School girls basketball team opened Oregon West Conference play Tuesday on the road with a 55-11 victory over Sweet Home.
The Warriors dominated from the opening tip with leads of 13-2 after the first quarter, 28-5 at halftime and 42-9 going into the fourth. The defense held the opponent to no more than four points in any one quarter.
Philomath got 12 players into the game and scoring was evenly distributed with 10 of them getting into the scoring column. Junior Shaylee May led with 11 points on four field goals — three 2s and a 3 — and 4 of 4 on free throws. Freshman Reagan Nuno came off the bench to score nine points.
The Warriors shot 38.9% from the floor and 64.7% from the foul line. The PHS defense held Sweet Home to 16.7% shooting on just 24 field goal attempts.
Philomath, ranked No. 2 behind Stayton in both the OSAAtoday coaches poll and in the OSAA power rankings, goes to 12-2 overall. The Warriors will host North Marion (6-7, 1-0) at 5:30 p.m. Friday. North Marion is coming off a 62-34 win Tuesday over Newport.
