The Philomath High School boys volleyball program won for the first time by taking three of four sets Thursday at Molalla.

Philomath established control early by taking the first set behind the serving of junior Antonio Martinez. Junior Andrew Muir had an efficient eight kills on 13 swings. However, Molalla regrouped to take the second in a set that saw several lead changes.

In the third and fourth sets, Philomath clinched the victory behind consistent team play, Coach Helen Bennett said.

Muir had a team-high 19 kills in the victory and Philomath’s servers finished with six aces.

Set scores were not available.

Philomath (1-1) will take a break from competition over spring break before resuming the season March 31 at Thurston.
