Philomath High School’s boys soccer team evened its record at 3-3 in the Oregon West Conference Tuesday with a 4-0 road victory over Cascade.

Sophomore Caleb Babcock and junior Silas Pittman each scored two goals and sophomore Zach Grapoli had two assists in the victory, which represented Philomath’s first shutout of the season.

Playing in wet and cold conditions on the Turner-area campus, the Warriors took control early with a goal in the third minute. Babcock sent the ball into the net off a cross from Grapoli.

In the 14th minute, Babcock won the ball in a scrum and scored from just outside the 6-yard box.

Pittman’s first of two goals occurred in the 22nd minute with a shot from 10 yards, an assist going to Grapoli. He scored the team’s fourth goal in the 32nd minute from 12 yards out on the left side.

Philomath (3-6 overall) will now get ready for a rematch against Newport at 4 p.m. Thursday. The undefeated Cubs (8-0-2, 4-0-2) won the first meeting, 3-1, in a very physical game on Sept. 26.
