The Philomath High School boys tennis team added two more wins to its record Thursday by defeating Marshfield and North Bend.

Playing indoors at the Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon in Coos Bay, the Warriors posted victories of 6-2 over Marshfield and 8-0 over North Bend.

No. 1 singles player Andrew Leonard, a senior, rolled in his match against the Pirates with a 6-0, 6-2 win. He didn’t take the court in the North Bend dual. PHS senior Sawyer Ainsworth moved into the top position vs. North Bend and won, 7-6, 6-0, after earlier defeating his Marshfield opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Junior Jackson Rice in his two singles matches posted wins of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. Senior Owen Thomas went unchallenged with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories. John Pickett played singles vs. North Bend and won 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles action, senior Osvaldo Garcia-Bazan and junior Jackson Holroyd took care of their North Bend opponents at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-2.

Senior Gradin Fairbanks and sophomore Lane Schell had a win in the No. 2 slot vs. North Bend, 6-3, 6-3. Earlier in the day against the Pirates, they played at No. 1 and lost 6-3, 7-5. Senior Nicholas Purcell and freshman Kayden Reynolds teamed up for a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles vs. Marshfield.

Philomath will take some time off for Spring Break and return to competition on April 2 at home vs. Marist Catholic to open Special District 2 play.
