The Philomath High School boys basketball team controlled the championship game of the South Coast Les Schwab Tournament against Crook County from the opening tip-off Saturday evening in Coos Bay in what ended up as a 60-36 rout.

Senior Preston Kramer scored 27 points and senior Jacob Peters threw in 14 as the Warriors improved to 5-2 on the season. Kramer’s points came on 11 field goals and 5 of 10 on free throws. Peters had six baskets, one of those a 3-pointer, and was 1 of 2 on foul shots.

Kramer averaged 22.3 points per game over Philomath’s three wins in the tournament. Peters also averaged in double figures with a 15.7 per-game average.

The Warriors held leads of 21-9 after the first quarter and 28-15 at halftime. Philomath took a 14-point lead into the fourth quarter before a strong 17-7 finish over the last eight minutes.

In the first quarter when Philomath established dominance, Peters scored nine and Kramer had eight. Senior Connor Harms scored a couple of baskets early and finished with eight on the evening. Junior Caleb Russell and senior Kash Lindsey hit 3-pointers in the fourth.

Sophomore Bryce Lowenbach scored 12 to lead the Cowboys, which lost for just the second time this season.

Philomath won’t hit the court competitively again until Dec. 27-29 at its own tournament. The Warriors are scheduled to face Sutherlin, Scappoose and Marist Catholic in the round-robin affair.
