Cascade held on to a one-run lead through most of the game and later pulled away for good in the sixth to post a 7-0 victory Thursday over Philomath. The Warriors have hit a rough stretch in their schedule with three straight losses.
The Warriors (4-4) will try to get back in the “W” column on Saturday with a nonleague game at North Marion. Philomath and Cascade will meet on Monday at Stephenson Field.
The Cougars scored a run in the first inning on a one-run single by Isaac Schnepp. The game remained 1-0 until the fifth when Cascade scored on a Warriors error, one of four in the game for PHS.
Starting pitcher Ty May and the Warriors kept the game close until the sixth inning. That’s when Cascade scored on another error, Caleb Boyles hit a one-run double and Conner Yechout hit a two-run double to give the home team a 7-0 lead.
May went 5-2/3 innings and allowed six hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Chase Beardsley threw the final one-third of an inning and allowed one hit and one walk with a strikeout.
