The annual opportunity in Philomath to clear space in the garage and get rid of broken, unwanted recyclable junk is coming up Saturday, April 15. Provided in cooperation with Republic Services, Philomath’s spring recycling event will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the city’s public works yard.

The cleanup event is free for Philomath residents who live inside the city limits. Proof of residency is required.

Industrial dumpsters will be available and Republic Services will assist with unloading vehicles. The entrance will be located on the south end of South 16th Street. City employees will verify Philomath residency and that the items are recyclable.

Among the items accepted will be untreated wood, scrap metal, yard debris, computer/electronic equipment, cardboard, large and bulky items such as mattresses, couches,

chairs, patio furniture, plastic pools, etc., and other materials not listed below as unacceptable.

Appliances and items containing Freon — such as refrigerators, freezers and air-conditioners — will be accepted with no fee.

Organizers said they cannot accept household garbage/trash bags, car batteries, tires, motor oil, propane tanks, gas cans and hazardous waste materials such as paint, insecticides or cleaning agents. Vehicles with household garbage or garbage bags may be turned away.
