The annual opportunity in Philomath to clear space in the garage and get rid of broken, unwanted recyclable junk is coming up Saturday. Provided in cooperation with Republic Services, the city’s spring recycling event will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Public Works yard.
The cleanup event is free for residents who live inside the city limits. Proof of residency, such as a utility bill, is required.
Industrial dumpsters will be available and Republic Services will assist with unloading vehicles. The entrance will be located on the end of South 16th Street. City employees will verify Philomath residency and that the items are recyclable.
Among the items accepted will be untreated wood, scrap metal, yard debris, computer and other electronic equipment and cardboard. Appliances and items containing Freon — such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners — will be accepted with no fee.
Organizers said the following will not be accepted — car batteries, tires, motor oil, propane tanks, gas cans, large and bulky items (mattresses, couches, chairs, patio furniture, plastic pools, etc.) and hazardous waste materials (used paint, insecticides or cleaning agents).
Vehicles with household garbage or garbage bags may be turned away.
