The Philomath High School boys soccer team scored twice over a five-minute stretch of the first half and the defense didn’t give the opponent much of a chance in a 2-0 victory Thursday at Cascade.

The victory puts the Warriors’ record at 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the Oregon West Conference.

Philomath senior Silas Pittman scored in the 32nd minute on a loose ball that got away from the goalkeeper. In the 37th minute, freshman Sammy Hernandez buried a shot back post.

“The first half was disorganized with Silas (Pittman) and Sammy unlucky not to score early in the half,” PHS coach Dave Ellis said. “In the second half, we did a better job controlling the game.”

The Warriors are currently sitting in third place in the league standings behind unbeatens North Marion and Stayton. Philomath will have an opportunity to make a move with a game Tuesday at home vs. North Marion. The start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
