The Philomath High School girls golf team finished in the top five and senior Isabelle Muir had a performance that was good for the top 10 at the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 3 Championships on Monday and Tuesday at Mallard Creek Golf Course near Lebanon.
Muir opened strong with a 46 on the Day 1 front-nine and finished strong with a 45 on the Day 2 back-nine. Overall, she had a 36-hole total of 195 to place eighth individually.
Salem Academy’s Chloe Johnston was the district champion with a 146, a score that was 10 strokes better than the runner-up, Salem Academy teammate Ellie Gladow. Johnston set herself up well with a 2-under par 70 on the first day.
Junior Annaleise Brown was a picture of consistency with all four of her nine-hole scores coming in between 52 and 57 for a total of 218, which placed her in 21st. Senior Shaylee May overcame a rough start to finish 23rd with a 224. Senior Marlee Quetschke was 35th with a 246.
The top two teams — Salem Academy and Santiam Christian — automatically qualified for the 4A/3A/2A/1A State Championships on May 18-19 at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Redmond. The top five individuals also qualify for state.
