A day after missing the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke by one-hundredth of a second, Philomath sophomore Lucas Brandt got the job done Friday in a swim meet at Sweet Home.

Brandt swam the event in 1:01.53 to break the record by .08 of a second. The performance was good for first place in the meet by nearly 9 seconds. Patrick Williamson’s record-setting time of 1:01.61 occurred in 2015 when he won the state title while competing in the event for the final time as a PHS senior.

Participating in the most competitive meet that the team has seen this season, Philomath High’s boys finished third behind Sweet Home and Marist Catholic and ahead of Cascade. Sweet Home also won the girls’ competition with Cascade second, Marist third and Philomath fourth with Riverside fifth.

Brandt also had an individual win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.45. The nearest competitor finished more than 8 seconds behind him.

Brandt now owns two school records — the other in the 200 individual medley.

Two PHS relays had runner-up finishes for the Warrior boys. The 200 medley of junior Mason Stevens, Brandt, junior Cameron McLennan and senior Alex Dye finished second in 1:51.85, which was two-tenths of a second behind the winning foursome from Sweet Home.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Philomath was second in 1:45.90 with Dye, Stevens, McLennan and Brandt.

Among the other results, Dye had two top-three finishes with third place in both the 50 freestyle (26.66) and 100 freestyle (1:01.76). McLennan was third in the 100 butterfly (1:00.53).

For the girls, senior Kyah Weeber was the only individual to have a top-three finish and she accomplished it in two events. Weeber was third in both the 200 freestyle (2:27.59) and 100 breaststroke (1:22.85). The 200 freestyle relay placed third in 2:06.07 with junior Ellie Dye, sophomore Emma Mecham, senior Kateri Pindell and Weeber.

Sweet Home dominated the meet in its home pool. In the boys and girls combined, Husky swimmers won 15 of the 22 events.
