The Philomath High School boys soccer team opened the season on Thursday night with a 5-0 victory on Marist Catholic’s field in Eugene.

The Warriors wasted no time taking control in this one with sophomore Silas Pittman finding the net in the game’s third minute on a left-footed rocket from the corner of the 18-yard box. Senior Chase Ringwald was credited with the assist.

Four minutes later, Philomath scored again on an own goal that occurred after a long throw by junior Lukas Dunn. The Warriors made it 3-0 in the 28th minute when junior Favian Aceves scored with an assist to Ringwald.

In the second half, Philomath added two more. Pittman scored his second of the game in the 52nd minute with an assist going to senior Mateo Candanoza. In the 67th minute, Philomath hit its last goal on a penalty kick by Ringwald.

The Warriors will play its home opener on Tuesday against Cottage Grove. The Lions will be playing their first game of the season in the contest, which is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
